… new lighting system in the Eur district in Rom/I

The international ideas contest entitled “Urban Lightscape – modern urban landscapes: light as a means of linking together past, present and future” will be opened on Wednesday evening, May 27th, in the auditorium of Rome’s Museum of the Ara Pacis. The event is promoted by the National Council of Italian Architects, Planners, Landscapers and Curators and organised by AIDI – The Italian Lighting Association – with the objective of developing a new lighting system for Eur: a district in the south of Rome/I characterised by its many examples of rationalist architecture.

The challenge awaiting designers is to devise a concept to meet the needs of this historic city quarter and establish links between the district’s historic and modern aspects in a contemporary urban dimension. Designers are asked to implement their projects from a Smart City viewpoint.

The projects are to be handed in by 25. September; the awards ceremony for the best projects will take place on 30. October with a ceremony held in the Roma Tre University School of Architecture’s Lecture Hall, located in the “ex-Mattatoio” complex of Rome’s Testaccio district.

“Urban Lightscape” – whose institutional partners are Rome’s Division of Urban Development, the IX Municipality “Eur” and EUR Spa – will have the following collaborators: the Order of Architects of the Province of Rome; AIDI – The Italian Lighting Association; The biennial PLDC (Professional Lighting Design Convention 2015); APIL – The Italian Association of Lighting Professionals; the Roma Tre University School of Architecture; the Masters in Lighting Design – MLD – La Sapienza.
