Launch of a new book by Norbert Wasserfurth-Grzybowski.

However much interconnectivity and digitalisation we have at our disposal nowadays, lighting design remains a question of the light loci – the way that light underscores the spirit of a space or place, which is defined by its history and cultural influences. Norbert Wasserfurth-Grzybowski refers to this as Lighting DNA®. Together with Future Strategies and Semiotics expert Prof. Dr. Gerdum Enders, Norbert Wasserfurth has developed a system with his team at Studio DL, which they use as a basis when designing lighting solutions for the urban realm. The projects implemented have received a number of prestigious awards. Wasserfurth has now published his philosophy in book form, inviting readers to digest and discuss his ideas.

In the eyes of Norbert Wasserfurth-Grzybowski, “Light is encoded reality” is one of the most important findings resulting from his work on this book. But how does lighting design come about in practice? What part does it play in urban development today, and what methods should we apply to be able to cope with future developments?

The contents of the four main chapters of the book

– OLD – Organic Lighting Design
– UrbanSpace – LightSpace
– Urban Coding by Prof. Dr. Gerdum Enders
– Communication management

together with the subsequent project reports, are an attempt to provide answers to these questions. The four main chapters are the result of numerous scientific studies, project work, teaching activities and discussions with friends and staff. The ten project reports invite further study and illustrate what developments have been made with respect to the contents of the four main chapters within a timeframe of around ten years.
